WaterOne Governing Board Adopts Sustainability Goals to Work Toward Net Zero Emissions by 2050

Lenexa, KS — October 15, 2025 — WaterOne is proud to announce the formal adoption of Sustainability Goals by the Governing Board, marking a significant milestone in the utility’s commitment to environmental stewardship, economic responsibility, and social equity.

Following a comprehensive Sustainability Assessment, WaterOne evaluated its current initiatives against industry peers and identified key opportunities to enhance its long-standing triple bottom line approach. This framework—balancing environmental responsibility, economic feasibility, and social desirability—has guided WaterOne’s decision-making for decades.

The newly adopted plan outlines a clear path toward achieving Net Zero Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 2050, aligning WaterOne with the region as well as with leading utilities across the country. This ambitious goal reflects WaterOne’s continued dedication to sustainable practices and responsible resource management.

“This sustainability assessment and plan mark an exciting step forward for WaterOne. Our Board is deeply grateful to our staff and consulting partners whose hard work and collaboration brought this vision to life,” said Board Chair Whitney Wilson. “We are also excited to see the goals imbedded more deeply into long-term planning efforts. This work not only positions WaterOne as a leader in utility sustainability - it also reinforces the commitment to excellence our customers expect and deserve.”

Key elements will be integrated into WaterOne’s Master Plan and Annual Capital projects, ensuring that sustainability goals are embedded in future infrastructure investments and operational strategies.

WaterOne remains committed to being a sustainability-minded organization, and this is a testament to our proactive approach in addressing climate challenges while delivering high-quality water services to our community.
