WaterOne wishes to acknowledge the passing of former General Manager Byron Johnson. Byron Johnson served the district for over 48 years, and concluded his leadership in the role of WaterOne's chief executive officer from 1990 until his retirement in 2003. Byron was an effective leader during a critical high-growth period, and he was instrumental in establishing strategic scalability of the district's operations and administration for the future. Byron is remembered for anchoring WaterOne's culture and ethics as an employer of choice, attracting top talent in the service of WaterOne's customers. To better serve the growing district, Byron also had the foresight to relocate WaterOne’s administrative offices to a right-sized, modern facility in 2001 in Lenexa, KS. The new headquarters consolidated much of WaterOne's administrative operations, and centrally positioned WaterOne for improved efficiency and reduced costs for WaterOne ratepayers.
WaterOne extends heartfelt condolences to the Johnson family, and appreciation to the legacy left to the people of Johnson County.
