WaterOne has again been recognized by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce as one of the region’s top employers for workplace health and culture. The Platinum Level “Healthy KC” Certification is the Chamber’s highest award recognizing excellence in promoting health and wellness policies.
“This past year has truly highlighted the importance of health and wellbeing,” said WaterOne General Manager Mike Armstrong. “We understand that having a healthy workforce is absolutely fundamental to our success, and the experience of the pandemic has reinforced that wellness has to be approached in a comprehensive way.”
Throughout the pandemic, WaterOne developed innovative strategies to encourage physical, mental and financial health for its employees. The District took early proactive measures to maintain workplace safety, including enhanced sanitation, face mask requirements, single-occupant vehicle policies, and remote-work accommodations. WaterOne’s employee Wellness Program was also adjusted for the pandemic. When WaterOne’s on-site fitness centers were closed due to pandemic safety, the District implemented an Employee Fitness Center Reimbursement Program for membership at offsite gyms and fitness facilities. The water utility also frequently promoted virtual health classes and activities that employees could safely participate in. These efforts were a complementary addition to WaterOne’s Wellness Program, which promotes a healthy lifestyle through annual biometric screenings, nutritious vending options, incentives for quitting tobacco use, paid volunteer opportunities, and more.
“Achieving Platinum certification is no small feat and requires extensive work and dedication,” said Joe Reardon, President and CEO of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. “You approach wellbeing from a holistic viewpoint and recognize that it isn’t just about programs or challenges but rather creating an environment where employees can thrive.”
WaterOne has received consistent recognition for its health and wellness efforts in recent years. This is the second consecutive certification that WaterOne has received at the Platinum level. WaterOne has also been a past Silver Level “Healthy KC” recipient and is a past honoree of the Kansas City Business Journal’s Healthiest Employer award as well. The recognition affirms WaterOne’s efforts to be an employer of choice by supporting the well-being of its staff, who perform a vital role in the community.
