At its meeting on May 11th, Ron Appletoft was sworn into his new position on the WaterOne Governing Board. Appletoft was selected by the board at its meeting on April 27th to fill the open position vacated by Greg Mitchell. Appletoft will serve the unexpired term through January 2024.
WaterOne is an independent, non-profit water utility serving over 455,000 people in the Johnson County area. It is led by a seven-member Governing Board, elected at-large by the residents of the service area. In the instance of a board vacancy, the open seat is filled through an open, public selection process voted upon by the sitting board members. As a non-taxing public utility, the main responsibilities of the governing body are to provide fiduciary oversight and set the policies under which the utility runs. WaterOne has received national recognition for its leadership and water quality. WaterOne was honored with the prestigious Sustainable Utility Management Award by the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) in 2019, and was declared “America’s Best Tasting Drinking Water” by the National Rural Water Association (NRWA) in 2021.
