The Governing Board for WaterOne has voted to confirm Shaun Pietig as General Manager for the organization. The confirmation was voted on at a special Board meeting on July 27th, and the appointment will be effective on August 8th, 2023.
WaterOne is the non-profit public water supplier for 17 cities in the Johnson County, Kansas area. The General Manager serves as the chief executive officer and is responsible for the daily administration of the utility's operations, personnel, and financial affairs. The General Manager reports directly to the Governing Board and is accountable for the overall operation and successful performance of the organization.
In her previous role as WaterOne’s Director of Distribution, Shaun was responsible for the overall operation of the district's 272-square mile distribution system. WaterOne's Distribution Division encompasses engineering, planning, designing, infrastructure renewal, construction and maintenance, distribution system water quality, mapping and drafting, and the sale of all service connections and meters.
Shaun joined WaterOne in 2007 as a Project Engineer with previous experience as a Design Engineer and Project Manager at an engineering consulting firm. She has served in numerous technical and management roles at WaterOne including Project Engineer, Infrastructure Planner and Asset Manager, Lead Engineer, and Manager of Distribution Engineering.
Shaun earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University and is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Kansas. She serves on numerous national and regional organizations, associations, and committees in the water sector, where she holds leadership positions dedicated to asset planning, asset renewal and sustainability, and management of water distribution systems.

Shaun is the fifth appointed General Manager to serve WaterOne in its 66-year history. WaterOne was established in 1957 and is led by a seven-member Governing Board elected at-large by residents of the service area. As the largest water utility in Kansas, WaterOne provides service to a population approaching 500,000 customers. WaterOne has an AAA rating from Standard and Poor's and an AAA rating from Moody's and has received numerous awards, including the Platinum Award for Exceptional Utility Performance from the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies.
