Mike has served as WaterOne’s General Manager since 2003. As the chief executive officer, he is responsible for the daily administration of the utility’s operations, personnel, and financial affairs.
Prior to his role as General Manager, Mike served as WaterOne’s General Counsel and Director of Legal/Auditing since 1998. He holds a degree in Political Science from Kansas State University and a law degree from the University of Kansas. He is also a graduate of the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School's Water and Wastewater Leadership Center.
As General Manager of WaterOne, Mike has been appointed by the Assistant Secretary of the Army and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to represent water supply stakeholders on the Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee, which is a collaborative regional stakeholder committee developed to advise the Corps on operations and management of the Missouri River, one of WaterOne’s primary water sources.
General Counsel • Director of Legal & Auditing
Eric has overseen WaterOne’s legal, auditing and insurance functions since 2003, when he joined WaterOne’s senior management team as its General Counsel and Director of Legal/Auditing. Prior to WaterOne, Eric served for over 13 years in local government law, most recently as Senior Assistant City Attorney for the City of Lenexa, Kansas.
He holds degrees in History and Economics from William Jewell College and obtained his law degree from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. He is a member of the Johnson County Bar Association and previously served on its Board of Directors.
Treasurer • Director of Finance
Darin has almost 20 years of financial management experience at WaterOne, and was promoted to Director of Finance in 2017. In his previous role as WaterOne's Manager of Financial Planning he was responsible for overseeing WaterOne's budgeting and long-term planning horizon. As Director of Finance, Darin is responsible for accounting, cash and investments, financial planning, purchasing and material control functions.
Darin is also an Adjunct Professor of Finance at Webster University in Kansas City, MO where he teaches graduate level finance courses in the MBA program. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Rockhurst University and a Master of Science in Finance from Webster University. He is a Certified Public Finance Officer, a Certified Treasury Professional, and a Certified Financial Planning & Analysis Professional. He is a member of the Governmental Finance Officers Association, the American Water Works Association (AWWA), and the Association of Financial Professionals.
In the past, he has served as President of the Eastern Kansas Governmental Finance Officers Association. Darin is also a member of the Rates and Charges Committee of AWWA, and he recently co-authored the Fourth Edition of the M29 Manual – Fundamentals of Water Utility Capital Financing.
Human Resources & Administration
Director of Human Resources & Administration
Janet joined WaterOne as Director of Human Resources & Administration in 2016. She and her team of professionals are responsible for recruitment, payroll and benefits, training and development, safety and security, wellness offerings, personnel policies, and employee relations.
Prior to WaterOne, Janet served with the Louisville Regional Airport Authority as its Director of Human Resources from 2002 to 2016. Her previous experience also includes tenure with Sears Holdings as a Regional Human Resources Manager. Janet holds a Doctor of Education in Leadership Education from Spalding University, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Louisville, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Spalding University. She is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
Director of Customer Relations
As Director of Customer Relations, Mandy oversees Customer Service, Meter Services, and Communication. This includes WaterOne's customer call center, billing, collections, field operations for meter reading and repair, corporate communications, public outreach, community and media relations. Her role is to champion customer service and the customer experience in every aspect of WaterOne's business.
Mandy joined WaterOne in 2012 as Communications Manager. She was appointed Director of Customer Relations in 2015, having served as an acting director throughout the previous year.
Prior to WaterOne, Mandy served in state and local government, most recently as Director of Finance for the City of Atchison, Kansas. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from Illinois State University and her Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas.
Director of Information Technology/CIO
Jorge joined WaterOne as its Director of Information Technology/CIO in 2015. He’s responsible for ensuring consistent and reliable technological support of business processes, priorities and initiatives involving a wide variety of technologies and applications.
Jorge received a degree in Computer Science from The Pennsylvania State University. His past work includes experience as the Head of Information Systems for Boehringer-Ingelheim Vetmedia, Inc., Director of IT Operations for Animal Health at Pfizer, Inc., and IT Regional Director at 3M, Inc. for its Caribbean Region based in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Jorge specializes in IT governance, global planning, capacity/cost projections, and maximizing the potential of IT resources. He is also certified in Six Sigma process improvement methods.
Director of Production
As Director of Production, Michelle Wirth is responsible for all aspects of water production, from source waters to treatment to pumping and storage facilities. She oversees all aspects of the production division including plant operations, facilities maintenance, facilities engineering, water quality lab, data analytics, and emergency management. Michelle has over 18 years of experience dedicated to utility engineering and management and is passionate about safe, fresh, delicious water.
Having joined WaterOne in 2015 as the Assistant Director of Production, she previously served in local government as the Environmental Services Manager with the City of Olathe and with an engineering consulting firm. Michelle has a MS in Engineering Management from the University of Kansas, and a BS in Civil Engineering from North Dakota State University. Michelle is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Kansas and Missouri. She also holds a Class IV Water Operator License in the State of Kansas.
Michelle serves on several statewide and regional industry associations, boards, and committees dedicated to planning, policies, and management of water resources. Currently, she is serving on the Kansas Section American Water Works Association Board of Trustees. She represents Public Water Supply stakeholders on the Missouri Regional Advisory Committee (RAC), established by the Kansas Water Authority for long-range statewide water planning. Michelle is also WaterOne’s representative on the Board of Directors of the Kansas River Water Assurance District and Treasurer for the Missouri River Public Water Supply Association.
Director of Distribution
As Director of Distribution, Dan ensures that WaterOne’s fresh, delicious water gets to your tap. He’s responsible for the overall operation of the distribution system, which encompasses engineering, planning, design and infrastructure renewal, construction and maintenance, distribution system water quality, mapping and drafting, and the sale of all service connections and meters.
Dan joined WaterOne in 1994. He’s a registered Professional Engineer in Kansas, earning a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska (Lincoln) followed by master’s level course work in civil engineering at the University of Kansas (KU) and the University of Missouri as well as MBA course work at KU. He also holds a Class IV Water Distribution Operator license in the State of Kansas.
He’s authored and co-authored papers presented at the state and national American Water Works Association (AWWA) conferences and the Underground Construction Technology Conference. Dan is a member of the Water Research Foundation (WRF) Research Advisory Council, a member of an AWWA technical committee for the relining and rehabilitation of water mains, and has served as a Project Advisory Committee member on several WRF projects, including a project researching how system pressures can protect water quality.
